UNDERSTANDING HOW COLORS ARE FORMED, THEIR ATTRIBUTES, HOW THEY BEHAVE WHEN MIXED TOGETHER, AND WHAT THEY COMMUNICATE OR EXPRESS, IS FUNDAMENTAL WHEN IT COMES TO COMBINING AND APPLYING THEM TO A PROJECT.
This course, taught by myself and Clementina Koppmann (graphic designer), is aimed at anyone who works or is interested in color, regardless of their field. Through exercises, experimentation, and observation, we will train the eye.During this process, you will gain the necessary confidence to create your own harmonious combinations or palettes without fear.
We will cover the following topics: Color wheel, Color relationships based on their location, Values, Saturations and keys
MaterialsA
- Blank paper suitable for acrylic paint
- Ruler, cutter or scissors for paper, pencil and eraser
- Acrylic Paints (Ei: Liquitex basics acrylics)
- White (you will need much more than other colors)
- Magenta, Cyan, 2 Yellows and Black 60ml
- Brush, Palette or a plate to mix the colors.
- Water, cloth or paper towels
You will receive a printable file with material that we will use during the course.
IMPORTANT:
To really understand and learn the behavior of colors, we need to work with them a lot.
During class we are going to explore the works of artists and designers and do painting exercises. We will not be sewing.
There will be a lot of painting, cutting and gluing homework which is essential to get the most out of the course. Our goal is to train the eye by doing as well as analyzing others’ work
